Student Life Counseling

High School is not only a time filled with academic achievement, and individual accomplishment; it is also the period of a young person’s life during which he or she begins to decide what kind of adult they will become. Today’s students are influenced by complex social problems and pressures the likes of which had not been seen during previous generations. Students are forced to deal with these pressures while still attempting to succeed in and out of the classroom. The faculty and staff of Holy Family High School are here to help in any way possible, but it is also imperative that parents, family, and friends of the students are well aware of the issues facing students in the modern day world.

The Holy Family Counseling Center has compiled a list of internet resources that will help educate parents on current issues, trends, and problems that high school students are forced to deal with on a daily basis. These resources may not fix the problem, but being knowledgeable on these subjects is half the battle. Further updates will be provided on this site, and in the Holy Family Newsletter.

Focus Adolescent Services provides information on many different teen issues from anxiety and depression to body image and suicide. This site can help determine if someone you know may be suffering from a specific disorder.

Teen Depression offers articles, statistics, and other valuable information dealing with teen depression. This site is not only helpful for parents, but also for students who may want to do some research on different problems.

American Academy of Child & Adolescent Psychiatry website provides a starting point for parents who are trying to determine whether or not their child is abusing alcohol or other drugs. It is a helpful site that provides warning signs, data, and effective methods to help keep children safe.

The Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance provides information on diagnosis, and recovery for people afflicted with mental disorders. This site also provides opportunities for people to volunteer or donate money.
