An Important Notice about Purchasing Texts for English Classes
Effective for the 2020-2021 School Year
The Holy Family High School English Department is changing its book purchasing procedure.
The New Procedure: In the fall, your student(s) will receive a list of required texts for his/her English course. These novels will be chosen from a master list, approved by Holy Family administration, and curated carefully to meet our curricular demands and Archdiocesan standards. While no one can create a perfect book list (believe me, we’ve tried), we believe this will help us to best meet our students’ needs and curricular demands. This change will allow us to ensure that students all have the same edition, free of other writing and/or highlighting.
When the text is needed for class, the department will order the books through the business office and the student’s family will be billed through FACTS. The books will be distributed to students in class. The cost of each text will be communicated in the syllabus at the beginning of each semester. There will be ample time for families to communicate with the teacher if they have the same edition of the text(s), free of any writing, available at home, or if they wish to purchase the text on their own. We will take special care to keep costs to a minimum, and financial assistance will be available to those who qualify.
We believe these changes are in the best interest of both students, their families, and our English teachers. Please feel free to reach out to Lisa Cillessen, Department Chair, at email@example.com with any questions about this change in policy. For financial concerns, please contact our business office.
